This project is to improve the visability and sense of security within the Chinatown Community amongst residents, merchants, property owners, tourists, and the community-at-large. But there is, there are communities within communities within Chinatown that have life like Ross, Waverly, Wentworth, and Beckett. Wentworth was the location of the recent Kanye West popup store back in August 2016. Through several meetings with the community, many have expressed concern for vagrants, increase of crime, illegal dumping, in the causeways and alleys where folks work, play, and live. Also, the need to revitalize all of Chinatown, including the causeways. |

Through our research and conversations, Ross Alley is part of the SFWATER's LED Street Light Improvement Project slated to be completed in Spring/Summer 2018. See video to the right on what SFWATER plans to do. We've sent a correspondence to the SFWATER project manager asking about timeline for Ross, as well as the possibility to include Waverly and Wentworth in future LED upgrades.
We've learned that Ross is definitely slated; however, Waverly, Wentworth, and Beckett aren't. But hope is not lost, as the community has to rise up and inform the city about their concerns for the dark alley. BeChinatown can only line up the plate, the rest is up to the community to setup the ball - take pictures, complain, advocate, inform, etc. and the city will come back and review the reports, make their assessments, and hopefully we get a homerun. (Thanks to @SF311, @SFpublicworks, and @SFWater for the updates, the assistance on our inquiries, moving fast for our community) |
